Getting started as a sports photographer
dec 6th
Photoinduced.com has made a series of interviews with sport, fashion and freelance photographers about what they keep in their camerabags.
The first series I’ll share with you is with staff sports photographer for Getty Images, Harry How. Harry has shot everything from the NFL to MLS (soccer), NHL (ice hockey), NBA (basketball), horseracing, FIFA (soccer), The Masters (golf), MLB (baseball) NCAA sports (college sports)… More >

I recently read a truly great and inspirational story on one of my favourite sites, sportsshooter.com.
Brian Blanco worked as a staff photographer for several years for a local newspaper in Tampa Florida, but do to the recent decline in sales (I would assume) he was fired… If you’ve ever experienced being fired, you’ll know that is isn’t the greatest feeling in the world…
Brian felt what most people feel when they loose their job, “can I still call my self a carpenter/teacher/photographer/coach etc., now that it isn’t my job anymore?”.
What makes this article stick out is how honest Brian describes his situation and how heart warming it is to read how he’s taken on this new chapter in his life.
Sports Photographers: Peter Read Miller
dec 2nd
From time to time, I’ll post an entry about some of the top sports photographers out there. I filed this entry in the “Review” category, but these guys are so out of my league that I’m not worthy to “review” them… lets just call this a post about my opinion of their work.
This week we’ll start off with one of my favorite photographers, Peter Read Miller, staff photographer for Sports Illustrated.
Mr. Miller has been shooting for S.I. for well over 20 years and in that time he’s had over 100 cover shots on S.I.
He is also a member of sportsshooter.com and teaches a yearly sports photography workshop in Denver.
I especially like this particular photograph of former NFL Linebacker Matt Millen. This pictures boils football down to what it’s all about (okay, so there’s more to it than that, but you get it!), sweat, blood and toughness.
To see Peter in action check out this link of him shooting the crazy and colourful Lucha Libras of New Mexico.
