If you’re interested in old school photography, Nicolai Brix, a kinda famous photographer/blogger in Denmark has written a post about old school photography.

Brix picked up these videos on strobist.com and I thought I’d share them with you as well.

But first I’ll give ya a little background info about the guy whose causing all the hubub (is that the way to spell that word?).

Dean Collins was a famous photographer who grew to fame in the 80′s. David Hobby (the guy who runs strobist.com) writes in a 2006 blog post about how he met Dean Collins at a lighting seminar.

Imagine yourself and a couple hundred other photographers sitting, mesmerized, in a hotel ballroom as a half dozen synchronized Hasselblad slide projectors took turns unlocking secrets and opening doors in their brains.

And talking non-stop at the front of the room was Collins, never standing still for a moment. His hands constantly gesturing, his delivery machine-gun fast. But somehow, your brain processed it all.

You were a rat and he was the Pied Piper, leading you out of the dark ages.

Like both Brix and Hobby writes, digital photo editing (a.k.a. Photoshop) wasn’t invented until 1987 so any editing had to be done at the shoot for maximum effect, as it actually is today.

Dean Collins fame back in the day caused him to produce several books and videos (the  videos has later been converted in to DVD’s) and the contain several hours of photographic insight into the mind of this spectacular photographer.

I did some research (read: I typed in the words, Dean Collins photographer on youtube) and found these great videos starring our hero; two of which are the same featured on the other sites and two new ones about a motorcycle shoot, and finally a short one on how to redirect sunlight for a portrait shoot.

Check ‘em out below. (click here to buy the 5 dvd set of lighting basics with Dean)
