Turning your home into an art gallery for your photographic work
I’ve begun to print and frame a lot more of my photographs than I used to. Recently I wrote about a print job where I had 2 posters printed for my kids from a Monster Truck shoot… This time the rest of the house turns into my own personal art studio…
I’ve dedicated a hallway for my more experimental flash photography work, in a stairway leading up to my kids bedrooms and another one leading down to the basement (hoping to course some traffic on the stairs). making people stop and take another look
…
Photos of the family are displayed in the living room on either side of the TV…
I change the photos periodically, usually when I’ve finished a new project deemed good enough by the wife to show in real life…
Regarding frames, I use these cool black ones from IKEA. They have a mat which makes framing easier and just makes ‘em look better…
To really show of the photographs in a pleasing way, I light them up with ceiling mounted spotlights, also from IKEA.
I print some of my work my self on my Canon printer, the Canon Pixma IP4600, which does an okay job, but most of my print jobs are done by my local camera store, Click in Naestved.
I read a post on fredmiranda.com recently regarding this subject, and I’ve tried to sum up the general consensus in this quote,
“I think it’s a shame to hide your work on the computer where it looses all its substance, being degraded to ones and zeros inside a computer chip, only accessible when the power is on”…
I couldn’t agree more…
Showing of your work to guests at home or maybe at your local photography club, can give you so much and exposing your work to possible face to face critique is an experience you should not be without.
